Make these perfect classic waffles from scratch and top them with your favourite toppings – sweet or savoury. Oh so yummyy!

Tips to make the Perfect Waffles

  • Don’t Overmix the Batter: Stir the ingredients just until combined to keep the waffles light and airy.
  • Preheat the Waffle Maker Properly: Make sure your waffle iron is fully preheated to achieve even cooking and a crisp exterior.
  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Room temperature milk, eggs, and butter help the batter blend more easily and cook evenly.
  • Grease the Waffle Maker: Even if your waffle maker is non-stick, lightly greasing it ensures the waffles release effortlessly.
  • Avoid Lifting the Lid Too Soon: Let the waffles cook fully before checking them to maintain their structure and crispness.
  • Keep Waffles Warm: Place cooked waffles on a wire rack in a warm oven to keep them crisp while you finish the batch.

Let the waffles cool completely if you have leftovers. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month. Reheat them in a toaster or oven to restore their crispiness.

Irresistibly crisp on the outside and soft within, these classic waffles are the ultimate breakfast staple, customizable with a variety of sweet or savory toppings for a delightful start to your day.

Ingredients

  • 120 g All-Purpose Flour

  • 1/2 tsp Salt (or a pinch if using unsalted butter)

  • 2 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1 tbsp Sugar

  • 1 Egg

  • 180 ml Whole Milk

  • 25 g Salted Butter (melted; or use unsalted butter with a pinch of salt)

Directions

  • Preheat your waffle maker to ensure even cooking and crispy waffles.
  • Sift the all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar into a medium bowl. Stir to combine.
  • Whisk the egg in a separate bowl until frothy. Add the milk and melted butter, and stir until blended.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients gradually. Stir gently until the batter becomes smooth and lump-free. Avoid overmixing to keep the waffles light and fluffy.
  • Lightly grease your waffle maker with non-stick spray or butter. Pour a ladleful of batter into the center of the waffle iron, spreading it slightly. Cook the waffles for 4-5 minutes, or until they turn golden and crisp.
  • Transfer the waffles to a plate and serve immediately. Alternatively, keep them warm in a low oven (around 90Β°C/200Β°F) while you cook the remaining batter.
