This Snowglobe G&T is a creative and festive twist on the classic gin and tonic, and it captures the magic of Christmas with a few simple, beautiful ingredients.

Snowglobe G&T

When it comes to holiday gatherings, I love serving drinks that feel special, and the Snowglobe G&T cocktail is always an unforgettable hit. The pomegranate arils look like (a rather upbeat) ground, while the rosemary sprig stands tall like a snow-dusted pine tree. It’s easy to make, but it looks and tastes impressiveβ€”perfect for any holiday celebration.

This drink is more than just a pretty face. The tartness of the pomegranate, the fresh herbal note from the rosemary, and the crisp, botanical flavors of the gin come together beautifully. It’s festive, refreshing, and feels like a little holiday celebration in every sip.

Tips for the Perfect Snowglobe G&T

  • Experiment with Gin Flavors: Opt for a floral or botanical gin, such as Hendrick’s, Bombay Sapphire or my favourite – Greater than, to compliment the fresh rosemary and pomegranate.
  • Use Fresh, Quality Tonic Water: High-quality tonic water like Schweppes will enhance the drink’s taste.
  • Chill Your Glass: For an delightfully frosty experience and all the elements of the snowglobe cocktail to stay in place – chill your gin glass in the freezer for atleast an hour before serving. So this makes a great prep ahead and serve easy kinda drink.

Why You’ll Love this Festive G&T Cocktail

The Snowglobe G&T is more than just a cocktail; it’s an experience. The frozen pomegranate arils, when start slowly breaking away from the frozen base and start making a jolt upwards, look almost therapeutic, making it a delightful treat for the eyes and taste buds alike. The rosemary adds a lovely, wintery aroma that pairs beautifully with the botanicals in the gin.

This cocktail is the perfect addition to your holiday menu. It’s elegant yet simple, making it an excellent choice whether you’re hosting a Christmas party or looking for a special drink to enjoy by the fireplace.

Make It Your Own

  • Add a Splash of Cranberry or Orange Juice: For a pop of color and a slightly tart taste.
  • Swap the Rosemary for Thyme: For a more delicate herbal note, but alas it doesn’t look like a Christmas tree!
  • Try Flavored Tonic Water: Elderflower or Mediterranean tonic water can add a unique twist

This Snowglobe G&T is a creative and festive twist on the classic gin and tonic, and it captures the magic of Christmas with a few simple, beautiful ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 long sprig of rosemary

  • 2-3 tablespoons pomegranate arils

  • 20 ml water

  • 60 ml gin (I like to use a botanical gin for a burst of flavor)

  • Tonic water (to top up)

  • Small ice rounds (they look like mini snowballs in the drink)

Directions

  • Prepare the Ice
  • To mimic a snowglobe effect, use small, round ice cubes. If you don’t have an ice ball mold, regular ice cubes will work, but the rounded ice enhances the aesthetic of the drink.
  • Freeze the Pomegranate Arils
  • Place the pomegranate arils and small ice cubes in a glass small container and stir in about 20 ml water. This step gives the pomegranate arils a floating, snow-like effect as they form (rather cheery) the ground.
  • Freeze partially – to form an ice crust
  • Freeze for about 1-3 hours as the water forms a thin layer of ice on the surface.
  • Add the (Rosemary) Christmas tree
  • Take a long sprig of rosemary and gently roll it between your hands to release its aromatic oils. Place it in the glass, allowing it to stand tall for a tree-like appearance. Puncture the ice crust so that the tree holds in place perfectly.
Freeze till you serve, but for at least a couple of hours!!
  • Assemble the drink
  • Add the 60 ml gin. Slowly pour in the tonic water until the glass is full. Watch as the bubbles rise, resembling swirling snowflakes in a snowglobe.
  • Serve and Enjoy!
  • Your Snowglobe G&T is ready to impress! Serve it immediately, and let your guests admire the beautiful presentation before taking a sip.

Notes

  • Forming the ice crust is important to ensure the rosemary (Christmas tree) stay in place.
  • To elevate this to an all new level – add a snowman, this can be made with youghurt soaked raisins or even small marshmallows on a toothpick (cut to the adequate size) which punctures the ice crust.
  • This is an extremely easy drink to serve, once prepared in advance. In fact each person (including guests) can individually assemble their drink to make it even more experiential!
